About Nola

As a kitten, Nola was our neighbor, Don’s, granddaughter’s cat. He was watching Nola for her while their family was staying with their great grandmother. As Don was being loaded into an ambulance we offered to watch Nola. We quickly fell in love with her. When Don came home we brought her back. The third time this happened we offered to watch her full time. Three months later we were so attached we didn’t want to lose her. We were so relieved and grateful when we were told we could keep her.

Nola will play for hours at a time. Her favorite toy is a crumpled up paper balls. She likes playing hide and seek. Although she is more of a member of the family than a cat, she still scratches us up. That’s what cats do.

She is a dog in a lot of ways. If she sleeps on the bed it’s at the foot. She also welcomes us home.

Nola is wicked smart. We were trying to scare her by flicking the lights off and off. She was staring at the switch so intensely – studying it. I put her on a stool by the switch and she shut the light off with her mouth.

We live in an apartment across from a beach. Space is sacrificed for location. Nola gets a little stir crazy in our apartment so I take her for walks. It first started on a leash but we just walk now. She is pretty good about staying near me. If a car scares her she will disappear but then find me. I still use the leash if we are walking at night or going to the beach.
